Unwrap a Gift!!- FREEBIE!!

Happy Saturday sweet friends!
I am here today with a "gift" to my readers to help make your life easier this December! The fabulous Amanda over at The Primary Gal has organized this fun linky party where you can hop around to lots of different blogs and "unwrap" FREEBIES from each of us! Make sure to head over to her blog to see all of the other fun bloggers who are participating!

My "gift" to you this morning is a sample from my December Print & Practice Pack! This past week, I did a fun writing project with my kiddos that was so simple, but they really enjoyed it. We wrote about what was on our "dream" Christmas trees. Here's a look at the finished product on my writing wall:

This project was a three day one in my classroom. On day one, we brainstormed our ideas for things that go on Christmas trees. We made a class bubble map with all of our ideas. I then had my kiddos take their favorite ideas from our class bubble map and do their own bubble map of their favorite ideas for their "dream" tree! Such a simple thing, but my kiddos loved it!

The next day, we used our bubble maps to create a tree map about our Christmas trees! We did this part all together, and the kids were writing ideas  based on what I was writing on my copy.
I also have my kiddos practice talking in complete sentences using their tree map. This is really helpful for my English Language Learner students! They have to "read" to me from the tree map by saying: "My Christmas tree looks shiny!" They can't just say "It's shiny!" We also color coded our circle maps so that students could remember that each column was different. Students will have to pick one idea from each colored column when they turn their tree map into writing!

On the third day of this writing process, I have my students circle one or two ideas in each column that they will use in their writing. We practice using complete sentences orally again, and I show the students a few examples of exactly how I would put the information on the tree map into a complete sentence.
Then, students used their tree maps to write at LEAST three sentences about their Christmas trees!
This was SUCH a simple idea and project, but it was easy to prep and lasted three days! My kiddos had fun too, which is always a plus :)

Want to do this writing project with your kiddos?? Click on the picture below to download these pages and a few others as a FREEBIE on TPT! But don't leave yet… theres still more!

If you're interested in checking out some of the other easy printables in my December Print & Practice Packs, check out the full packs for Kindergarten AND First Grade! The First Grade pack includes the same writing templates that I posted about here, but for a snowman and Santa Claus too!

Before you head over to unwrap more gifts from my blogger buddies, I have ONE MORE FREEBIE FOR YOU!!! It's my Christmas Countdown color & word scramble chart! My kiddos keep this in their extra work folders and color a box each morning as part of their morning work. I have numbers on it that match the dates that we are in school this December… I did not include weekends since they aren't in class! The last day that they color is the 19th, which is our last day until break.
Now, I realize that we are already part way through December, BUT my FREEBIE of this pack includes different versions of this chart! And there's even a version without numbers!! There is also a version where the kiddos only need to color the pictures, and do not need to unscramble or write the words.

Click on the picture below to download the Christmas countdown coloring chart to use in your classroom!

That's all from me today friends!! I hope that you enjoy your freebie "gifts, " and that they help make your life easier this December. Make sure to head over to The Primary Gal to check out some of the other "gifts' from my blogger buddies. Click on the button below to go to her blog!

Amanda and I decided to swap SUPER HERO PRODUCTS!! Yay!! I got to try out her Super Hero Creative Writing Pack for 2nd-4th grade. Click on the picture below to see this pack on TPT.
It is ONSALE this weekend too!! :)

I decided to use parts of this pack with my "challenge group" in first grade. I have 3 students who are reading far above grade level and are fast finishers. They are always wanting a challenge, so I thought having them write their own super hero story would be a lot of fun for them!

Amanda's pack is FULL of wonderful ideas to use. There are graphic organizers, story paper, timeline and biography activities, etc.. all with a SUPER HERO theme!!

I started out by letting my advanced kiddos design their own cape, to get them excited about Super Heroes & get their brains started with thinking about super ideas!

I love the designs they came up with!! They are such meticulous students and really took their time with this activity too!

Next in their Super Hero Packet, I included this fun page that Amanda created for them to "brainstorm" their action story! This fits perfectly into the story elements that my class has been working on: character, setting, plot, etc… But I really like that it challenges my advanced thinkers to create these these story elements for their OWN story! This was tough for a couple of them at first, but once they got started, they really loved it!! I had to cross out "point of view" for one of my kiddos because he just wasn't ready for it yet, but he worked very hard on the other parts.

I LOVE the conflict that this girl came up with! So creative!!

My kiddos REALLY took their time with their brainstorming, and are still working on their stories!! This activity has given them over a week so far of things to do for their "early finisher" time.
They are still in the middle of their stories and I am SO excited to see how they turn out!!!

One of my favorite things about Amanda's pack is really the variety!! I only used part of the pack, and I was able to give my kiddos independent work for two weeks that was really meaningful and creative.
My advanced students love being able to take out their special packet and work on it!!

Don't forget, Amanda's Super Hero Creative Writing Pack is ONSALE this weekend, and best of all… she is letting me GIVE ONE AWAY!!! WOO HOO!!

If you head over to Amanda's blog, she wrote all about my Super Hero Sight Words Pack and all of the fun that her students had working with it in her classroom!! Click on her button below to head over to her blog!
She's also giving away a pack on her page, AND my pack is ONSALE this weekend only!! Click on the images below to see it on TPT.

AND as a BONUS this weekend, if you buy ANY 2 products in my store, I will send you another one of your choice for FREE!! Just email me with your TPT username, and the product of your choice. Please note that your free product must be of equal or lesser value to the products that you purchased.

"Who is Ready?" Songs!

Good morning friends!!

I feel like I have been such a slacker on blog posts and freebies lately, and I apologize! I wanted to tell you about a fun little song that I sing to my kiddos to help them get ready and to transition quickly. I usually sing little diddys to my class to help motivate them to put their things away faster and to get settled, etc... and I always throw a few students' names in there to help them get excited.. they LOVE to hear their names in a song!!

My go to tune for a song is simply the tune of "Are you Sleeping?" It's easy to fit almost any words or phrases to this melody which is why I love to use it.

Yesterday, I literally started singing the "Who is Ready?" song to my kids without even planning it! I was in a good mood, had my coffee and was just having a good morning of teaching, and it came out!!

It goes like this:

Who is ready?
Who is ready?
With their supplies?
With their supplies?
(student's name) is ready.
(student's name) is ready.
(student's name) is too.
(student's name) is too.

That's it!! Simple as that! You can change the "With their supplies?" line to anything else! Like  "On the carpet" or "with their math book" etc.. whatever you need the kids to have out and be ready with, you can put that here!

I created a cute little FREEBIE for you with a few versions of my little song:

Click on the picture above to download it for FREE!!

Happy Thursday friends. Wishing you all a great day with your students!

Fall Favorites Blog Hop!

I am SO excited to be participating in the Fall Favorites Blog Hop this weekend with some of my favorite primary bloggers! I hope that you have enjoyed your hop so far and have been getting some fun classroom ideas for Fall.

My absolute favorite thing about Fall (and really just teaching in general) would have to be children's literature! I just LOVE BOOKS!! And I think that Halloween, and Thanksgiving have some wonderful children's literature. If you follow me on Instagram, you might be sick of seeing me post about my two favorite Halloween books and the activities that go along with them, but let me just tell you… my firsties are still SO into both of these stories! I have been able to use these books to teach about: plot, sequencing, characters,
setting, and other story elements.
My two favorite Halloween stories are definitely
Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, and
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.

This week, my kiddos did a double bubble map to compare both of these Halloween stories. This was such a fun activity for them, and it hit so many of  the standards that I am supposed to be teaching as well. It was a win win for sure!

As a FREEBIE for you, I have included the double bubble map. I have ALSO included a blank double bubble map for you to compare two of your favorite Fall stories with your kiddos. Click on either picture below to download your freebie!

Coming soon…
I am in the process of updating my Thanksgiving literacy unit about my favorite Thanksgiving book: Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano.

I absolutely LOVE this story!!! It is also a great book to teach story elements to your students. This product is available in my store now, and an updated version is coming next week, but I wanted you to have a "sneak peek" freebie! Click on the image below to download. :)

Ready for some more fun!?? I decided to have a mini giveaway
in honor of my favorite Fall books.

I am giving away BOTH of my Halloween literacy packs for Big Pumpkin and Room on the Broom
Click on the pictures below to see these packs on TPT!

I am ALSO giving away $10 to Amazon
for you to spend on children's books for your classroom!! Woo hoo! Happy shopping :)

Hi! I'm Kelly blogging from Sweet Sounds of Kindergarten.  I am a Southern California teacher who loves crafting, coffee, musical theatre, and pink! I taught Kindergarten in a Private School for four years, and am now teaching 1st grade for a local public district.
I developed my true passion and love for teaching during my 4 years of teaching Kindergarten at a private school. I was able to create the school's first full day Kinder program, along with my own curriculum, and I absolutely loved every minute of it!
This classroom was and still is very special to me :)

Here's the final picture I took of my first classroom. Such fond memories!
Here's my new first grade classroom!!! I LOVE it already! First grade is so much fun :)

I have been married for 1 year now to my wonderful hubby Cameron. We love traveling, wine tasting, and spending time with our families! We are so blessed :)

My favorite thing I have ever created for my classroom is my addition cups! My kiddos in both Kinder and First have loved using this to practice adding during centers. Dropping any kind of manipulatives through those little cups is such a thrill for some reason! I also laminated the card stock on the back board so that the kiddos could write the numbers with dry erase marker while they are adding!

I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me!! The fun doesn't stop here, friends! :)

To celebrate our new collaborative adventure, The Primary Pack is hosting a giveaway with tons of fabulous prizes!
